Flights operate from the United Kingdom to Moldova.
The capital city is Chișinău, the currency is the Moldovan Leu, and the official language is Romanian. English is understood in Chișinău, however in towns and villages in the rest of the country, only Romanian is spoken. In the breakaway state of Pridnestrovie, Russian is spoken as standard.
Moldova has a small population, roughly 3.5 million. Moldova is a safe country, with friendly and welcoming locals, however as with anywhere, caution should be exercised.
Pricing of goods and services is on par with countries in the area, for example, Romania and Ukraine.
Chișinău Airport is roughly 8 miles from the city centre.
Revaca railway station is a 28 minute walk from the Airport, services are currently suspended. Services were tipped to resume in March 2026, but this has not happened.
Trolleybus Line 30 departs from the front of the airport to the City Centre. A single fare is 6 MDL (less than €0.50). Timetable Live Tracker
Trolleybuses to/from the airport accept card payment, however this is not yet rolled out across all routes in the city. A contactless reader on equipped buses can be found near the centre and rear doors.
Cash is available from a multiple cash machines in the airport terminal, all of which charge fees on international cards. Shop around for the best rate.
A small amount of cash is always recommended, but is not essential. Most major shops accept international cards.
Chișinău Station is located very close to the station. Regular buses and trolleybuses leave from the main road at the front of the station heading into the centre. The fare is 6MDL for a single ticket.
Some bus and trolleybus routes accept card, however this is the exception rather than the rule. Be prepared with a cash payment ready for the conductor, or alternatively, you can pay for single tickets on the Orange Moldova app (with a valid sim card subscription, more on that later).

Rail services in Moldova are few and far between. Above you will find the full national and international rail schedule for the country.
CFM run a skeleton service that has not recovered since Covid. Many lines service and routes are still 'temporarily' suspended.
Trains eastbound toward Bender have been suspended since early 2025, along with trains north to Balti, which were also suspended around the same time.
Moldova currently operates two types of multiple units on their network. These are formed of Hungarian D1 units, or D1M units which are a heavily refurbished and rebuilt version of the former, modernised in 2012. These units operate the reminder of services in the country.
Cross border trains to Romania are formed of the D1M units.
The single domestic return journey is scheduled to be operated by un-refurbished D1 units, however ChME3's with hauled stock have worked this service before previously. Unfortunately information regarding this is erratic and infrequent to see if this is still the case.
The only scheduled locomotive hauled trains in Moldova are international sleeper services. Please see the 'Pritenia' page for more information
