The United Kingdom has a large population, concentrated on large cities, the United Kingdom is a safe country, however caution is advised in larger cities. 

Locomotive hauled trains run in the United Kingdom, on various routes around the country. As always, DMU substitutions can (and often do) occur.

Caledonian Sleeper operate locomotive hauled trains on routes between London Euston and various Scottish destinations. These services are hauled by a variety of locomotives, the 'Lowlander' to Glasgow and Edinburgh is hauled by a Class 92 electric locomotive throughout. The 'Highlander to Fort William, Inverness and Aberdeen is hauled by a Class 92 as far as Edinburgh, where diesel traction takes over, usually a Class 66 or a Class 73. These services use comfortable CAF Mk5 coaches, with both seated and sleeping accomodation available. Hot and cold food and a variety of drinks, snacks and refreshments are available in the Lounge Car on both of the trains.

One 'Lowlander' and one 'Highlander' run each way on Weekdays and Sundays. The Caledonian Sleeper does not run on Saturday nights.

Chiltern Railways are in a transistional period regarding the locomotives allocated and coaching stock utilised on their locomotive hauled services, therefore this information may contain inaccuracies, however we endeavour to update the site as soon as new information becomes available to us.

Chiltern Railways operate locomotive hauled trains on the route between London Marylebone and Stourbridge Junction, via Birmingham Moor Street and Snow Hill. These services are hauled by Class 68 diesel locomotives, in push-pull formation, with a Mk5 DT at the other end of the train. Introduced in 2014, this type have operated services on the Chiltern Main Line for a number of years, replacing Class 67s on this work. These services use comfortable CAF Mk5 coaches, with both First and Standard Class available. There is no catering service provided on these trains, carrying your own provisions is advised.

There are 4 scheduled diagrams on Weekdays, and a singular diagram at Weekends.

Great Western Railway operate locomotive hauled trains on the 'Night Riviera' sleeper service between London Paddington and Penzance. These services are hauled by Class 57 diesel locomotives. Rebuilt from Class 47 locomotives between 1998 and 2004, this type have operated services on the Great Western Main Line for a number of years. These services use comfortable BREL Mk3 coaches, with both First and Standard Class available. with both seated and sleeping accomodation available. Hot and cold food and a variety of drinks, snacks and refreshments are available in the Lounge Car on the train.

One Westbound service and one Eastbound service run on Weekdays and Sundays. The 'Night Riviera' does not run on Saturday nights.

LNER operate locomotive hauled trains on the routes between London Kings Cross and Leeds, and London Kings Cross and Newcastle. These services are hauled by Class 91 electric locomotives, in push-pull formation, with a Mk4 DVT at the other end of the train. Introduced in 1989, as part of the East Coast Main Line Modernisation Program this type have operated services on the East Coast Main Line since electrification was completed on the route. These services use comfortable Metro-Cammell Mk4 coaches, with both First and Standard Class available. A buffet service is available in Standard Class, available from the shop coach on board. Meals are served in First Class, the menu changes fairly regularly, and can be found on the LNER website.

The latest information currently available to us suggests 5 diagrams on Weekdays, and 4 diagrams at Weekends, however this has recently increased with the reintroduction of locomotive hauled workings further North to Newcastle.

Translink - NI Railways operate locomotive hauled trains as part of a joint venture with Iarnród Éireann on the 'Enterprise' service between Belfast Grand Central and Dublin Connolly.

ScotRail operate hauled trains on routes throughout Scotland. These services are hauled by Class 43 diesel power cars, with an additional Class 43 power car at the other end of the train. Introduced in 1976, these locomotives have gained a cult following amongst enthusiasts, and hold a legendary status on the UK railway. As a result of publicity campaigns by British Rail in the 1980s and 90s, they are one of the most recognisable types of train to ever run in the UK. These services use comfortable BREL Mk3 coaches, refurbished to a 'high density' configuration with both First and Standard Class available. A buffet service is available in Standard Class, available from the at seat trolley service on board. Light snacks and refreshments are served in First Class.

Transport for Wales operate locomotive hauled trains on the route between Manchester Piccadilly and South Wales, alongside a singular diagram running between Holyhead and Cardiff Central. These services are hauled by Class 67 diesel locomotives, in push-pull formation, with a Mk4 DVT at the other end of the train. Introduced between 1999 and 2000, this type have operated services in Wales for over 10 years, replacing older Class 57s on this work. These services use comfortable Metro-Cammell Mk4 coaches, with both First and Standard Class available. A buffet service is available in Standard Class, available from the shop coach on board. Meals are served in First Class, the menu changes fairly regularly, and can be found on the Transport for Wales website.

There are 5 scheduled diagrams on Weekdays and Saturdays, with two diagrams on Sundays.
